Careers With RJS Solicitors

RJS is a growing, people-focused law firm offering high-quality work, strong career development, and a supportive team culture. With realistic targets, excellent training, and real opportunities to progress, we give talented professionals the platform to thrive while delivering exceptional results for our clients.

Culture

We strive to create a professional and friendly working environment, and our employees are by far our greatest asset. We challenge our staff to perform at their highest levels while developing their careers in a supportive and collegiate setting. We work as a team, not as individuals, and we are open, honest and supportive of our staff.

We focus on providing legal advice to businesses, their owners and their families, and believe we hold a unique place in the legal market in Staffordshire and beyond. We are always looking for talented and enthusiastic individuals to help drive our plans forward, including through our two-year tailored Graduate Training Programme, which provides an exceptional and well-rounded introduction to the legal profession.

Quality of Work

Our clients range from start-ups to large PLCs, and we act for more than 5,000 businesses alongside their owners. In recent months, we have completed a significant number of corporate deals with enterprise values between £5 million and £50 million, often finding ourselves opposite large national practices. We have also completed, to our knowledge, the only crowdfunding raise in Staffordshire in 2022.

Our Dispute Resolution Team is recognised for handling significant and complex matters, including acting on warship litigation for a FTSE 250 client alongside a varied commercial caseload. Our property team mainly acts for pension funds, commercial landlords and BTL investors and has grown year on year.

We also have experience in high-level sports-related work, acting for a number of local and national sports people. Stoke-on-Trent has received the largest levelling-up award and is seeing major redevelopment across its six towns, where we act for a high proportion of private landowners and developers. A recent example includes leading with the Local Authority on the purchase and redevelopment of Hanley, Newcastle and Tunstall Libraries, with a GDV exceeding £40 million.

Quality of Life and Benefits

When RJS was founded, we recognised that work-life balance was essential, and that remains a core value. Our founders work hard while staying family focused, and that culture has flourished, with many of us still able to do the nursery or school run without losing the ambition and drive lawyers enjoy. Our targets are realistic, achievable and set by you, averaging around 1,000 billable hours a year, with full support from across the business. If your child is ill or you need an emergency appointment, it is never a problem.

We offer a regional firm base salary, individual bonus opportunities, matched pension contributions, 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, the option to purchase additional leave, hybrid and flexible working by agreement, access to a private GP and healthcare scheme for you and your family, four times life cover, and free parking.
